Who Do I Work For Next?

I don't know about you but how Lebron James went about making his announcement regarding who he would play with on ESPN has truly inspired me. The reason why is because he knew he was one of the most targeted NBA players that half a dozen teams were salivating over to come play for their team. Besides being one of the many free agents, he also was the most talented at his position. What franchise would not want to sign or trade draft picks for a player who is 6ft 8inches 240LBS and can play at least 4 different positions?

In the same way I believe that we as employees are no different than Lebron especially if we feel that we're skilled, experienced, hardworking, and committed to helping our employer take the company to the next level. However, sometimes what you bring to the table does not matchup with the amount of money you are making. I'll use myself for example. I have been with my job the past 2 years. I started out as an intern and stayed on part-time to become a communications associate. Now since I have been promoted to an associate and graduated from college with my degree, I have yet to be given a raise or company benefits. Sure things have been difficult and my boss has reduced hours to keep everyone employed, but it has been challenging in my part.

I have applied to various jobs who will pay me more money and give me full time status. I'm still waiting to hear back from the right one. Lebron was not in this situation because teams were waiting on him to choose what NBA uniform he would be wearing next season. Yet, Lebron in my opinion told Cleveland I have taken this franchise to the finals in 2007 and have played a huge role in having the best record in the eastern conference two consecutive years. Lebron didn't care about the money, which he showed after signing his 6 year deal with the Heat for 110 Million. The Cavs were offering him $130 million to stay but, he wanted to play for a team that would give him the best chance to win championships.

Don't you feel like Lebron when it comes to your performance at work? Sure times are tough with the economy, but people are still getting promotions despite what is happening in the job market. So why not seek other companies who will offer you more money, benefits and opportunities to do new things. Maybe it is not about the money in your situation. It could be exposure, experience or you're looking for a new challenge.

So rather then ask yourself how will I make it on this salary or wage?, why not ask Who Do I work for next? Especially If you're confident and well equipped to do the job. What do you think? Post your thoughts and comments.
